The Well woman exam is a routine gynecological exam that is recommended for all women to have annually starting at age 21. The purpose of a well woman exam is prevention of disease. A routine well woman exam will typically consist of a breast exam, an exam of the external genitalia, a speculum exam to inspect the vagina and cervix, and a bimanual exam (internal exam) to assess the uterus and ovaries by palpation.
STD screening is offered and performed when indicated. The pap test is done to screen for cervical cancer and pre-cancer when indicated. Women that have had a hysterectomy and/or their ovaries removed are recommended to come in for an exam at least once a year.
We are unable to address problems at the time of the well woman exam. However, we will work to get you scheduled for appropriate follow up to address all of your concerns and women’s health needs.
